Call for papers: Food Studies
Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Conference is recruiting submissions. The conference will explore almost any topic related to food, like diversion of food to biofuel production, food marketing to children, and gendered home cooking patterns. The only thing they’re missing is a presentation about eating insects.

Games to increase vocabulary
Spend your internet gaming time on something productive - Dictionary.com’s Word Dynamo uses games to build your vocabulary. The site will even estimate the size of your current vocabulary based on your test results, so you can see watch your vocabulary grow as you play. Word nerds (like me) will love this!

Penicillin paintings
Little-known fact: Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin, also developed a way to paint with microbes. Using microbes of different colours, he timed the incubations so that all organisms would mature at the same time, creating a picture. See “Painting with Penicillin” at the Smithsonian.
